A woman writing

The mission of Dissociative Writers is to write
and to foster the creativity that helped us survive
as children and now, as adults
 in a safe community space.

  • Our Story

Dissociative Writers started out as a means to an end, a way to sell our founder’s book, and quickly morphed into so much more. In 2021, as writers with dissociative disorders found their way to the new website and signed up and started attending the original Traditional Workshop, it soon became clear how much this space was needed. It became a place to hone our writing skills. But, more than that, it was a place for participants to be seen and heard and understood, a rare trifecta in our everyday lives.

  • Workshops

Members of Dissociative Writers gather in virtual writers workshops to explore our creative depths through writing. We offer four writing workshops each week in three different formats, plus occasional special events – all in a supportive writing community. There is no requirement to attend a minimum number of workshops, but we encourage members to try each workshop out as they can.

  • Membership

Dissociative Writers (DW) are people just like you and me – men, women, and non-binary people who write about their experiences of living with a dissociative disorder – poetry, memoir, fiction, non-fiction, dramatic scripts, whatever our chosen medium may be. We welcome parts, young and old, to participate.

All workshops and special events are free to members for a modest fee that covers the cost of operating Dissociative Writers.

  • Memoir 101

Each year, Dissociative Writers offers a multi-session class, for an additional fee, called Memoir 101 for Dissociative Writers. Participants learn the basics of memoir writing, share their own writing at least two times, and build community with other classmates.

  • Published Works

As a part of their subscription, members of Dissociative Writers are entitled to submit writing to our annual published anthology entitled Creative Healing. When members publish personal work, they may ask to have it uploaded onto our website. Check out our Published Works page to see the published writing of our community.

  • Support

Dissociative Writers has grown through the volunteer support of members who have stepped up to serve as facilitators, Board members, and active participants. As we plan for the future, we invite you to consider supporting us financially as well. Help us make sure that this writing community continues to serve survivors with dissociative coping strategies.
